Launch of a discussion paper introducing a new model of DES

The Minister for Social Services Christian Porter chose a café where APM had placed a job seeker to release a discussion paper aimed at introducing a new model of Disability Employment Services (DES).

Minister Porter was joined by Assistant Minister for Social Services and Disability Services Jane Prentice, senior Department of Social Services staff and a large media contingent at the “Decadent” café in Tuggeranong on the outskirts of Canberra. APM Group General Manager Employment Services Karen Rainbow and the Canberra ES team also attended.

After launching the discussion paper and taking questions from media, Ministers Porter and Prentice were treated to a coffee by James Lucas, who APM placed into a job at Decadent 12 months ago. Minister Porter remarked he thought it was better than the coffees at Parliament House.

People with disability, employment service providers and employers of people with disability are encouraged to provide feedback on the discussion paper. Minister Porter said potential options for reforms outlined in the discussion paper aimed to increase the number of people with disability finding and keeping a job.
