Activities of Daily Living Assessments

An activities-of-daily-living assessment is designed to examine the day-to-day factors in the home environment that may be impacting an individual’s ability to manage because of their injury or illness.

Recommendations are provided on techniques, equipment, services and modifications to assist with being able to function safely and independently in the home.

Ergonomic Assessments

Often a simple ergonomic review can prevent work-related injuries and general physical discomfort.

It is a key preventative strategy and will ensure that the work environment is set up appropriately for safe work.

Functional Assessments

Functional capacity evaluations are carefully managed and administered assessments which are designed to determine an individual’s physical capacity for performing work.

APM uses the Physical Work Performance Evaluation (PWPE) system because it is a research-developed and fully validated measurement tool, designed to accurately and objectively measure an individual's physical capabilities. The patented scoring system takes clinical guesswork out of determining an overall level of work, projecting performance for an eight-hour day and determining sincerity of effort.

The PWPE results give valuable information about whether there is a match between the injured worker’s abilities and their job or potential occupations. The results of the PWPE are summarised in a concise, objective and easy-to-read format for use by doctors, injury management consultants, insurers, employers, solicitors and workers.

Manual Handling Training

With the goal of preventing workplace injury, APM offers a tailored solution to the delivery of manual handling training. This includes a detailed assessment of the workplace to ensure that specific manual handling risks are incorporated into the training.

Training can be offered to individuals or groups on location or at an APM office.

Vocational Assessments

Vocational assessments are undertaken to identify suitable and realistic vocational options taking into account functional capacity, transferable skills, employment history, qualifications, interests, aptitude and pre-injury earnings.

The assessment is often supported with local labour market research to ensure realistic vocational goals can be established.

Usual Duties Registers

A Usual Duties Register (UDR) is designed to improve injury management outcomes through a process of early and targeted identification of appropriate duties for injured employees. The UDR consists of a tabled summary of physical and psychological demands of job roles. It is useful as an education tool for supervisors and external stakeholders and helps guide the return-to-work process effectively.
