The countdown has begun to the start of APM’s delivery of NDIS Local Area Coordination services in communities across Western Australia.
From May 1, more than 150 Local Area Coordinators (LACs) from APM Communities will help people with disability and their carers or family members access the NDIS support they need.
APM has been supporting Western Australians living with injury, illness and disability for more than 25 years.
Last year the human services organisation was selected by the National Disability Insurance Agency to deliver the NDIS Partners in the Community LAC Services. It is estimated APM will deliver services to 7,000 people with disability in WA over the next 12 months.
The services will be delivered in several locations in the Perth metro area as well as WA’s South West, Great Southern, Inner Wheatbelt and Mid West regions.
This week APM welcomed its new team of 150-plus LACs, Team Leaders and Community Capacity Building team members to the company with a three-day induction at Perth Conference Centre.
The new team members were presented with information about the NDIS in WA and the role they play in helping people in the community.
Demonstrating the importance of community support for people with disability, WA dance group Tracksuit also performed at the event.
As well as helping people with disability to access the support they need, APM’s LAC network will be working with local businesses, organisations and community services in WA to develop stronger connections to support people with disability across the state.
Jason Diederich, General Manager of APM Communities, said the new team are looking forward to getting started in their new role.
“It is clear the APM Communities LAC team are passionate about supporting people with disability to achieve their goals and enable better lives in the WA community,” he said.
Ahead of the launch on May 1, APM is hosting a series of information forums in communities across WA for existing NDIS participants and people with disability to find out more about the NDIS and the LACs.
