Employment helps Ian find his balance

  • Support from APM Employment Services and APM WorkCare helped Ian find a positive balance in multiple areas of his life
  • Ian is grateful to APM for helping him develop an ongoing commitment to work and personal development

Ian and his support network help him overcome long-term unemployment.

When Ian engaged with APM in September 2020, he was experiencing long-term unemployment and struggling with his mental health.

He was also experiencing upheavals in his personal life and did not have access to stable housing.

Although he was eager to return to the workforce, he was not quite sure how to balance his personal life and employment.

Multiple consultants across the APM Noarlunga and Aldinga sites (both SA) worked in together to provide Ian with the best possible support.

Ian was also referred to WorkCare services which he was receptive to, to further support his return to work.

Ian started with JC Mechanical after being referred to the role by his Employment Consultant Steve in April 2021.

Steve was also able to negotiate a Wage Subsidy with the employer and ensure that the working conditions would be suitable for Ian going forward.

Embracing a method of open communication and consistent interaction, Steve, Ian, and the employer were all able to work together so Ian could reach his 52-week employment milestone.

As a result of his employment, Ian was able to improve his living situation by purchasing a car and also a caravan. He spends his spare time renovating his caravan in the hope of eventually selling it on.

Ian credits APM with his ongoing commitment to work and personal development, and he is now engaging in Ongoing Support with Senior Employment Consultant Carly to continue on his amazing trajectory.

Carly continues to encourage Ian to have a strong balance between work and life, to keep surfing which has a strong positive effect on his mental health and continuing to grow into a strong role model for his daughter.
