New skills open new doors of opportunity for Luis
60-year-old Luis was a Jobactive client, determined to not sit around the house he approached APM for assistance finding work.
“I met Luis in January this year” his Employment Consultant Pritika recalled.
“I quickly discovered he had limited computer skills, preventing him from accessing many beneficial online employment resources.”
This barrier prevented him from utilising online job search systems, knowledge about work related licensing and where to access them.
Luis advised Pritika that he no longer wished to sit around at home and wanted to get back into the workforce.
Pritika saw how she could help Luis and jumped into action to help him create a resume with his existing employment history.
“After actively contacting his friends and previous employers to try and locate vacancies” Pritika said.
“There were some opportunities which, unfortunately, fell through.”
Luis got help to create a Unique Student Identifier (USI) and was booked in for White Card training.
After acquiring both, Pritika reassured Luis that with his previous experience, newly obtained white card, and willingness to work, an employment opportunity would arise soon.
Over the following weeks, she actively made phone calls to employers and marketed Luis for every suitable position.
Pritika jumped into action and sent a very detailed message to the employer, discussing APM’s services and Luis's great experiences and abilities.
A video interview was conducted with Luis in the APM office followed by a three-day paid work trial with Comprehensive Strata Cleaning.
His employer was very impressed with Luis's hardworking personality and dedication to work and offered him a job.
Even when Luis’ personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety boots continued to be stolen, Pritika continued to support him through this difficult period. She was able purchase more PPE for him, on top of offering him phone recharge and an Opal card top up.
“I wanted to ensure it was not going to hold Luis back from working and keeping up his positive energy” Pritika added.
Since he started, Luis has continuously expressed to Pritika that the job is just perfect for him. It’s clear both Luis and the employer are happy and satisfied with their outcomes.
Today, Pritika continues to maintain frequent contact with Luis and his workplace, ensuring Luis continues on his successful employment journey!
