Local job seeker, James White, Nuriootpa is enjoying his new job after being employed by the Co-op's Mitre 10 store, Nuriootpa, with the help of disability employment provider APM.
APM helps people with disability to find a job and enjoy the social and economic benefits of work.
James came to APM as a voluntary client last year and expressed interest in working for the Co-op, in either the Mitre 10 store or Foodland. After discussions with the Co-op's management team, HR Manager, Mr Paul Amos informed APM that the company would love to take him on, and after completing a work placement at Foodland last year, James started in his paid position with Mire 10, in February.
Through his job, James puts away new stock within the store.
Local APM Business Manager, Leeanne Charlson has been working alongside James with APM Employment Consultants Shona Seiboth and Allison Golding, who all agree that James is thriving in his new position.
"Work is so much more than a job for James, who is gaining new friends and experience at wo," said Leeanne.
"It's so fantastic to see the difference we can make with the support of local businesses like Mitre 10. People with disability and barriers to employment have so much potential and there's no reason they shouldn't be given the same opportunities as everyone else."
