Building better rapport in her new community

  • Lisette reached out to APM Employment Services for help to locate work in her new community
  • Pili Pala Pieces have gained a fantastic new employee

After relocating Lisette turned to APM for support to find work

After relocating to Tasmania, Lisette was keen to build her social connections and become a part of the Hobart community.

Thanks to the impact of COVID-19 restrictions, Listette wasn’t getting many opportunities to socialise. Nor could she network to locate employment in her local area.

Struggling to adapt after her move, Lisette attempted many different avenues to locate work.

She reached out to APM Hobart, connecting with Employment Consultant Veronique before face-to-face meetings were possible.

“She was ready to return to work, she found it difficult to locate appropriate employment” Veronique recalled.

“Lisette began to lose confidence in the local opportunities, which also lead to losing confidence within herself.”

Initially, Lisette tried to start a family project by opening her own food van business.

However, with COVID-19 impacting the hospitality industry, unfortunately it was not the right fit.

In January this year, Veronique and Lisette were excited to finally meet in person when face-to-face appointments returned.

Lisette arrived at the APM Hobart office with fantastic energy and a gentle personality. The comfortable and open setting ensured that they were able to relate more and work better with one another.

During their appointment, Veronique contacted two employers. One of these was Pili Pala Pieces, a beautiful handcraft store in Salamanca that was struggling to find the right person for their store and market stall.

“I left the office with a big smile” Lisette said.

“I was so thankful to Veronique for understanding my personality and increasing my confidence.”

Just one week later, Lisette started at Pili Pala Pieces.

Today, she is now working mainly with handcraft pieces at the store during the week and some weekends on the market stall.

Lisette is very happy and hasn’t stopped smiling ever since - a wonderful outcome for Lisette, a local business and their local community.
