APM’s Brad Scott is heading to Spain to represent Australia in the Pararoos World Cup squad.

Brad, a member of the APM Communities team in Bunbury, is one of 14 players heading to the International Federation of Cerebral Palsy Football (IFCPF) soccer tournament which kicks off on July 8.

Played at an international level, CP Football is part of the Paralympic Games and brings together athletes with cerebral palsy or acquired brain injuries to play team sport at a high level.

“It’s an honour to have been selected to represent the green and gold at the IFCPF World Cup this July,” Brad said.

“Although I have been fortunate enough to compete at the last three Paralympics for Australia in athletics, the challenge of learning a new sport and making the 14-man Pararoos squad is something I am very proud of.

“We are currently ranked 10th in the world and looking at the quality and professionalism of the team, I have no doubt that we will represent our country with pride and go far in the tournament.”

A fast-paced and unique version of soccer, CP Football has seven players from each team on the pitch at a time. Each half lasts 30 minutes and there’s no offside rule.

The sport has also been found to have significant health benefits for players who have may have various types of muscle and movement restrictions.

Brad joined APM Communities earlier this year as part of the roll out of NDIS Local Area Coordination services in regions across Western Australia.

Working in the Community Capacity Building team, Brad helps groups, organisations and businesses deliver services for people with disability and develop greater inclusion in their community.

“A regular struggle for many athletes is finding a supportive workplace and one that understands and supports the commitment and dedication required to perform at the top level. I am truly grateful for the kind words and support I have received from everyone at APM,” Brad added.

The Pararoos kick off their World Cup campaign against Ukraine on Sunday 7 July. Follow the squad on Facebook.
