APM were thrilled to be a part of the Homelessness Connect days at Lismore and Casino in northern New South Wales earlier this month.
Homelessness Connect is a day of community, compassion and practical support for people that are homeless, at risk of homelessness or experiencing rental stress.
Organised by Social Futures, a social justice organisation based in Northern NSW, the days were supported by several local service providers, including our local APM teams from Casino and Lismore.
Attendees enjoyed a BBQ lunch on the day plus access to clothing and toiletries and free entertainment.
Our APM team assisted with the set-up and pack-down of both events as well as lending a hand with the cooking.
In Casino Teena peeled and sliced an entire bag of onions through copious amounts of tears, and in Lismore Angela Mathew folded and stacked bags, doonas and tents which were donated to the homeless.
Casino attendees were also lucky enough to experience the haircutting prowess of Employment Consultant Teena!
As a qualified hairdresser prior to joining APM, Teena offered to cut attendees hair free of charge.
Teena styled eight people which equated to an in-kind donation of more than $600.
While clients were having their hair cut, Teena chatted to them about the services that APM offers which resulted in a direct registration for the Richmond area, and another two referrals received post-event.
APM is still very new in these areas so this is a fantastic result and well worth the time of our staff.
Our caseloads are steadily growing due to our involvement in community events and we continue to receive positive feedback from other service providers, including the Department of Human Services and the Northern Rivers Community Legal Service.
