Geoff is now doing his best work in his new role - being a great dad.
Geoff lost his job of 13 years only two weeks before he found out his wife and he were going to have a baby.
Geoff lost his job of 13 years only two weeks before he found out his wife and he were going to have a baby.
With the help of APM and Disability Employment Services (DES), he’s found a new job and a new purpose, and he can be the best dad he can be.
The stress of looking for a new job and constantly being knocked back was affecting his mental health and putting a real strain on his relationship with his wife, Catherine.
Geoff remembers, “My moods were all over the place. And that's why I turned around and said, I needed to go to an employment place to try and get a job.”
When Geoff met Adam, an Employer Account Manager at APM Employment Services, they quickly determined that factory or production work would suit Geoff’s skills best.
It was a case of creating a new resume and contacting local employers with suitable positions matching Geoff’s skills.
They found it at Specialised Linen Services.
For Paul, Geoff’s new employer, both Geoff and APM have helped a lot.
“Geoff’s very passionate. He loves working here. He's got a bit of a purpose as well,” Paul said.
“APM offers a lot of support, including wage subsidies. Each staff member has to have a medical before they work.
“APM pay for that. And there's a two-week trial period, which APM also paid in his ongoing support.”
But perhaps the biggest impact has been on Geoff’s family life and his role as a husband and father to their new baby.
His wife Catherine said, “APM has been amazing. Having a job is probably one of the best things because it's one that he likes to do.”
“He's actually in the moment now with this little one here, and (to baby) you love your Daddy, don't you? There's just no words to really describe how we feel now.”
