Brett finds his feet again in his dream forklift job

After a long time away from work, Brett is back doing a job he enjoys and building a more secure future.
Now working full time as a forklift driver, Brett has found the routine, confidence and sense of pride he had been missing.
Before starting with APM Employment Services for Workforce Australia support, Brett had been out of work for a long period and was managing personal challenges while trying to find a job.
Even some of his first steps towards work were difficult.
Brett had limited formal qualifications and needed support to organise personal documents before he could move forward with training and job applications.
That changed when he connected with Employment Consultant Kripa at APM Surry Hills.
Together, they looked at Brett’s goals, the barriers making his job search harder, and the type of work that could be a good fit.
Forklift driving soon emerged as a strong option.
Kripa helped Brett get the identification he needed and supported him to complete the training required for his forklift licence.
APM also helped with practical costs, including work clothing, groceries and fuel, so Brett could stay focused on preparing for work.
When shoulder and back pain began to cause problems during his forklift training, Brett became concerned about how he would manage a physical job.
Kripa helped arrange physiotherapy, giving Brett support to complete his training safely and feel more confident about returning to work.
The support continued through his job search.
Kripa stayed in regular contact, referred Brett to suitable roles and worked with APM Business Development Manager Masaratt to find an employer and role that matched his skills.
The hard work paid off when Brett secured a job as a forklift driver.
He is now working full time and has taken on more responsibility as he has settled into the role.
Brett described it as his “dream job” and said he was extremely grateful for the opportunity and the support he received from APM.
Kripa said Brett never gave up, even when things were difficult.
Brett’s support continued after he started work, with Kripa checking in every two weeks to help him settle into his new role.
With stable employment now in place, Brett no longer needs support from APM and is looking ahead with confidence.
