Shayla finds stability and a fresh start at work

A new job at Boost Juice is giving Shayla more than a regular pay cheque.
After a period of uncertainty, she has found steady work, built a new routine and is saving towards a personal goal.
Shayla came to APM Employment Services through the Transition to Work program while living without stable accommodation and with limited access to medical care.
She was also managing personal health challenges and often had to navigate services on her own.
Keeping regular support in place was difficult.
Shayla continued to visit the APM Deception Bay office to meet with her youth support worker, which helped build trust over time.
APM worked with Child Safety and Indigenous-led community organisation Murri’s Way to help connect Shayla with support and reduce gaps between services.
Her youth support worker also attended medical appointments with her and helped connect her with local community services.
There was no rush.
Each step was taken at Shayla’s pace and based on what she felt ready to do.
When the time came to talk about her next steps, a job opportunity offered a new option.
APM Industry Consultant Heidi told Shayla about a position with local employer Boost Juice.
Shayla was willing to give it a go.
APM helped arrange the interview and bought suitable clothing so she could feel prepared.
Shayla took the next step herself, travelling to the interview by public transport.
She got the job.
Shayla built on the strong first impression she made with a consistent and reliable first month in the job, never missing a shift.
To help make the role sustainable, Heidi worked with the employer to agree on suitable hours and arrange a wage subsidy.
The match has proven to be a strong one.
The employer’s feedback was simple: “They wish they had her a year ago.”
APM Employment Services works with job seekers and employers to find opportunities that match each person’s needs, skills and goals.
