Gloria and Ingeus Spain transcript

Gloria: Hello, my name is Gloria and I wanted to share with you part of my life story. I have lived in Spain for 14 years. My husband came first and then my daughter and I came. We used to have a good life. My husband was working but, unfortunately, I didn’t manage to get my residency documents before he was deported. That’s where my entire odyssey began.

Lucia: It is a monomarental family in which the user, Gloria, lives with her 25-year old daughter, who has a recognised disability of 90% due to cerebral palsy. Both Gloria and Florencia, her daughter's name, live in a vulnerable condition due to the fact that they have been in an irregular migrator situation and without documentation which is why they have not had access to any type of public benefit. When we met Gloria, she had been subletting for about 10 months. One day, Gloria receives an eviction order due to non-payment of the subleased part of the rent, that’s when they give us the case and we start working with her. She explains to us that due to her social situation, she does not have access to the labour market, because the residence documentation that she has obtained does not allow her to work, since she acts as the main caregiver of her daughter. Her daughter at that time had no recognised legal disability. After our visit, we identified all the indicators of vulnerability and social exclusion. And we started working to improve their situation. First, we look for the possibility of generating a rental contract in Gloria’s name. Today Gloria has a social rental contract in her name with a validity of one year and with an established rent according to her current income. Also, we have supported her in the process of requesting Florencia’s legal incapacity and the social benefit of the minimum vital income, of which we still do not have resolution but is in the process.

Gloria: Lucia came here, she met me and came to know about my situation. I explained to her everything. Lucia managed to stop the eviction. We started looking for a ways that I could stay here with a social rent, she has succeeded and, today, I have the contract in my hands, I have a rental contract since the bank has agreed to make me a social rent.

Lucia: Currently, Gloria has a rental contract in her name, and she is working, taking care of an elderly woman. That job allows her to pay, at least, the expenses in supplies.

Gloria: Now we have completed the legal 5 years, and I can start the procedures for my daughter’s pension, for everything that corresponds to her and to be able to live better, with dignity and be able to pay all our expenses. Sometimes I don’t believe it. I want to continue fighting and continue my process with Lucia. I am very grateful. Thank you very much to Lucia, and to all the people behind her, I know that there are many people working hard. Thank you for being there and thank you for being with us and working for us. Thank you very much is all I can say. I am happy, I am very happy.
