Joshua's award-winning inclusive employment success

When Joshua first walked into APM Corio, he was ready to take on the world - he just needed the right support to get started.

Living with cerebral palsy and having never held a job before, Joshua was determined to find meaningful work that suited his abilities and ambitions.

With the help of APM Employment Services, Joshua began building the foundations for his future.

His dedicated employment consultant worked closely with him to update his resume and build confidence through interview practice.

That preparation paid off when they connected him with a paid traineeship opportunity at Barwon Prison through Victoria Group Training.

Although delays pushed back his start date, Joshua stayed focused and hopeful, encouraged by APM to keep applying and stay positive.

His perseverance was rewarded when he officially began working as a Clerk at Barwon Prison.

APM continued to support him every step of the way - helping with essentials like food and workwear, budgeting advice, and even driving lessons to help him gain independence.

Joshua’s hard work and dedication didn’t go unnoticed.

The Apprenticeship Employment Network wanted to recognise Joshua’s achievements and he was nominated for the Inspiration Award: Disability Achievement at the Apprenticeship Training Awards - and won!

He proudly accepted the award at a special ceremony in Melbourne, joined by his APM consultant who had been with him throughout his journey and colleagues from Barwon Prison, Tanya and Brett.

“If I can do it, anybody can, just don’t give up,” Joshua said during his award interview.

Today, Joshua is thriving in his role and has built strong relationships with his colleagues.

With ongoing support from APM, he’s looking ahead with confidence and optimism.
