What is Inclusive Employment Australia?

Inclusive Employment Australia is the new name for Disability Employment Services (DES).

It is an employment program to help Australians with a disability, injury, or health condition, prepare for, find, and succeed in a job.

If you're eligible for Inclusive Employment Australia, we work with you to tailor your support to meet your specific needs. It may include helping you:

  • prepare for joining the workforce
  • train in specific job skills
  • write resumes and job applications
  • boost your interview skills
  • look for fulfilling and suitable jobs
  • meet local employers
  • access health or other local support services

When you start working we may also help you with:

  • on-the-job training
  • access to uniforms, tools or equipment
  • speaking to your boss and co-workers
  • ongoing support in your job
  • modifying your workplace

Am I eligible for  Inclusive Employment Australia?

If you have a disability, injury, or health condition that impacts how much you can work, you may be able to join  Inclusive Employment Australia if you are:

  • aged 14 to 67 and legally allowed to work
  • able to work up to 30 hours a week (with support if needed)
  • an NDIS participant or eligible school leaver

We discuss your interests, the type of work you would like to do, and your employment goals.

When you find a job

When you start working, we’re still here for you.

Your APM employment consultant will check in with you regularly to see how you’re going and help with any challenges you may have.

If you need us, we can provide on-the-job support, which may include workplace modifications, skills training, and other assistance to help you succeed at work.

And we can also meet with your employer and co-workers to ensure a supportive work environment.

We’re here to help you once you start your new job, making sure you feel supported and confident at work for the long term.

Inclusive Employment Australia has replaced Disability Employment Services

Inclusive Employment Australia replaced the Disability Employment Services (DES) program in November 2025.

All participants registered with DES have been assigned to an Inclusive Employment Australia provider.

If you would like to change your provider and join APM Employment Services, get in touch with our customer support centre who can guide you through the process.

Frequently asked questions

Inclusive Employment Australia is a government-funded program that helps people living with disability, injury, or a health condition to prepare for, find and keep work. 


APM delivers employment support through Inclusive Employment Australia, the new name for Disability Employment Services (DES). 


If you were previously with DES, your support now continues under Inclusive Employment Australia.


At APM, we personalise your support–from job searching and skill-building to workplace modifications and ongoing help once you’re employed. 


Our goal is to match you with work that suits your abilities, needs, and goals.

You can register for Inclusive Employment Australia with APM by calling 1800 276 276, visiting apm.net.au/register, or speaking with Centrelink and asking to be referred to APM. 


Once you’re referred, we’ll contact you to book your first appointment. You can choose to meet in person, by phone, or online, depending on what works best for you.

You may be eligible for Inclusive Employment Australia if you:

  • have a disability, injury, or health condition that affects your ability to work
  • are aged at least 14 to Age Pension age
  • are an Australian resident
  • can work between zero to 30 hours per week (with support if needed)

Other eligibility criteria applies.

APM’s Inclusive Employment Australia support is personalised to your situation. We may help you:

  • Explore job options and set employment goals

  • Access training, courses, or work experience

  • Prepare for interviews, update your resume, and apply for jobs

  • Access workplace modifications and employer support

  • Receive help after you start work to stay employed


Support is free if you’re eligible and continues for as long as you need it to succeed in your role.

Inclusive Employment Australia supports people with a broad range of disability types, including:

  • Physical and sensory disability

  • Mental health conditions

  • Neurological conditions

  • Chronic illness or pain

  • Intellectual or cognitive disability


If your condition affects your ability to work or get a job, Inclusive Employment Australia may be able to support you. 

APM tailors your support plan so you get help that suits your needs.

Just visit apm.net.au/iea/find-us and search by your suburb or postcode. You’ll see the nearest offices, their opening hours, contact details and directions.


If you’d prefer help over the phone, you can also call 1800 276 276, and we’ll guide you to your closest location. 



You don’t need a referral to start the conversation, but you do need to be referred to officially join Inclusive Employment Australia. 


Centrelink assesses your eligibility and refers you to a provider like APM. 


If you’d like help with this, we can guide you through the referral process and what to expect next. 



Your support plan can be updated at any time. If your health, work capacity, or personal situation changes, we’ll adjust your support to suit your new needs. 


No, there’s no cost to you. Inclusive Employment Australia is funded by the Australian Government. 


If you’re eligible, your support through APM is free. 


We’re here to make sure you get the employment help you need without added financial stress.


There’s no set time limit. The support you receive depends on your situation and goals. 


APM provides help while you’re looking for work and once you’ve started a job. 


We’re here for short-term wins and long-term success, whether that’s weeks, months, or longer. We work with you at your own pace.


Yes. If you’re employed and struggling because of your disability, injury or a health condition, Inclusive Employment Australia can help you stay in your role. 


This might include workplace modifications, talking to your employer, or helping you manage work and health together. 


APM works with you, and with your employer, if you want, to support you to keep working.
