Liam and Early Start Australia transcript

Casey: My name's Casey, I'm Liam's dad. I'm originally from New South Wales, which causes all sorts of drama here in Queensland.

How I describe Liam would be a complete ball of laughs all the time. , bundle of energy, loads of fun and keeps me very young.

So we've been with Early Start for probably about three years now I guess. Both with occupational therapy and with speech. And it's been really good, really easy, comfortable.

There's a lot of places we've been to that it's difficult to mesh.

But with Early Start we just fit in straight away and they'll be really good with us.

Kyra: Early Start Australia provides a range of services for children aged zero to 18. Things like speech pathology, occupational therapy, psychology and some dietitians as well.

We work with kids and their families across a range of contexts.

So like in clinic, at home and out in the community, in school.

And we just support them to, I guess, build their skills and independence so they can get a lot of happiness and joy out of life. And reach their goals.

I met Liam and he was such a character. He was a joy to work with, immediately open and friendly and we built our rapport around his interests, so Wiggles and music.

Casey: They've been very supportive in the sense of fitting in with our schedules as well.

Obviously, with Liam still being in school, my wife and I both working full-time, the admin team are always obliging trying to help us out, and then the therapists trying to fit us into their schedule as well.

Kyra: Myself, Casey and Liam have a very positive relationship. We're a team working together.

Having all of that information from Casey, learning about who Liam is as a person, has really helped us to come together as a team.

The way I see it is Dad's the expert on Liam. I’m the expert in my field, and we get to join forces and work together to really support Liam and his goals.

Casey: The therapists here have always been really comfortable and easy to get along with. It's just an easy process. If we think it's going to be difficult, but the team here make it easy.

Yeah, so he keeps me on my toes.
