Emma’s NDIS plan is all about having fun with her granddaughter.

Emma has spent a lot of time in hospital over the last couple of years. So time with her children and granddaughter matters most to her now.

She was diagnosed with cancer of the vocal cords about two years ago, but the radiation therapy caused issues with her voice box.

One night she couldn’t breathe or swallow and was choking on water. At the hospital, they put a breathing tube down her throat. And that’s when she had a stroke.

Emma, incredibly, sees the positive side. “Luckily I was in hospital at the time.”

She was in a coma for two days, and then, after about two weeks, her throat flared up again.

Emma went to emergency four times in one week, until a tracheotomy was the only option. She understood that was what she needed to breathe properly.

Emma was in hospital for another three months. When she was finally discharged, she was determined to do all the care herself. But taking control of your own care isn’t always easy.

Emma remembers, “When you sort of first get onto NDIS, it's quite confusing with all the support agencies out there. With plan managers out there.”

Fortunately, MyIntegra was there to take care of her NDIS plan.

“Having MyIntegra takes the load off my shoulders, that I don't have to worry about, because I do get quite anxious in trying to organise things.

"The communications that I had originally had with them, it's made me feel quite at ease. Everything's all been organised, and there's no stress on my behalf.”

Which is just the way a good NDIS plan should be managed.

Emma has better things to concentrate on, like her rehab and occupational therapy sessions, and getting the support from her team of providers.

Most importantly, she believes in herself.

“My confidence in myself to get myself better has really improved. Make my kids proud again, that's what I want to do. And they are proud of me because I’m doing so well now.

"And just be there for my granddaughter and just be able to have fun with her.”
