Celebrating disability experience and inclusion

Personal stories of disability

Ahead of International Day of People with Disability on December 3, APM is launching “Ellie Cole’s Couch,” a compelling series of interviews hosted by APM Ambassador, Australian Paralympian, and disability inclusion champion, Ellie Cole.

This series delves into the personal experiences of APM team members, highlighting how their own journeys with disability inspire and enhance their work supporting others.

Ellie Cole, an inspiration to people of all abilities, sits down with APM colleagues to explore how their personal stories shape their professional lives and their approach to helping others.

“Being a part of this series has been incredibly inspiring,” said Ellie.

“Meeting people from across APM who have such powerful stories of resilience and empathy has truly touched my heart.”

“It’s amazing to see how personal experiences with disability can shape and enhance the way we support others.

“Each conversation has been a reminder of the strength and compassion within our community.”

Bree, an employment consultant in Newcastle, shares how her hearing loss diagnosed when she was four years old, helps her relate to job seekers and employers.

“The best part of my job is breaking down that barrier and just watching the employer go, ‘Oh, okay, we can work with this,’” she says.

Graham, a Community Engagement Consultant, draws motivation from his son’s conditions and his own physical challenges.

His firsthand experience allows him to empathise deeply with those he supports.

“Relating with my son, relating to his conditions, you can empathise with people,” Graham explains.

Christine, a Business Manager for the New England region, finds strength in the memory of her daughter, who was born premature and diagnosed with multiple conditions.

Despite her own health issues, Christine remains dedicated to empowering others.

“My ultimate goal ever since having my disabled daughter is to just advocate for people with illness, injury, or disability,” she states.

Ellie Cole’s Couch is more than just a series of interviews - it’s a celebration of resilience, empathy, and the power of personal experience.

Each episode offers a glimpse into the lives of APM team members who are making a difference every day.

Watch the interviews and see how APM’s diverse and dedicated team members deliver on the shared purpose of enabling better lives.
