Your first meeting with an APM Employment Consultant
If you’re eligible for Disability Employment Services, we’ll invite you to meet in person with a dedicated employment consultant at your nearest APM office.
Your employment consultant will get to know your situation and your employment goals. Then they’ll work closely with you to create an individual employment plan.
We might talk to you about things like:
- Your obligations as a participant of Disability Employment Services
- Our obligations as a provider of Disability Employment Services
- Your skills, interests and ambitions about work
- How many hours you can work in a week
- Preparing your resume
- Filling out work connect forms
- Barriers you might be facing finding work
Your employment consultant can answer any questions you might have about the Disability Employment Services program. They can also talk to you about available government and community services in your area.
At the end of the meeting, your employment consultant will arrange a time to contact you again. Usually, we’ll be in touch with you weekly for the first four weeks.
Your individual employment plan
Your employment plan is the steps you and your employment consultant will take to work towards your employment goals.
This could include things like:
- Building employment skills to get you ready for the workplace
- Writing or editing your resume and cover letter
- Searching for suitable job opportunities
- Practising interview techniques
- Accessing workplace accommodations or special equipment
- Accessing mental health services or other support services
- Accessing funding for things like transport and uniform costs
- Participating in volunteer work trials
