How Andrew achieved his employment goal

Andrew joined APM in 2019, facing the challenge of securing stable employment due to a neurological condition that affects his mobility.

Despite these hurdles, Andrew’s spirit remained strong.

He initially found work as a customer service usher at a large entertainment venue, but the inconsistent hours made it difficult for him to achieve his target work hours.

Determined to find a more stable position, Andrew continued working at the venue while engaged with the Disability Employment Services program with APM’s Warwick team.

Together, they updated his resume, honed his interview skills, and explored various job opportunities.

Andrew’s love for interacting with people kept him motivated, even when initial referrals for customer service roles didn’t pan out.

His APM employment consultant Ricardo suggested Andrew consider additional casual positions at other Perth venues to help increase his employment hours.

Andrew loved the idea and with Ricardo’s guidance, he approached several stadium management companies.

His persistence soon paid off with a second usher position at another venue.

Ricardo supported Andrew with the onboarding process and using the apps needed to manage his shifts in multiple workplaces.

Andrew’s hard work and determination didn’t stop there.

He even landed a third casual position at yet another venue, finally allowing him to achieve his employment goal and work hours across three locations.

This milestone was a significant achievement, and Andrew’s confidence soared as he continued to contribute actively to society through his employment.

Even though Andrew is now eligible for the Aged Pension, he remains committed to working as many shifts as possible.

Andrew’s story is a shining example of how support through Disability Employment Services is tailored to each person’s goals.

For employers, the benefits of hiring through APM are clear: dedicated support throughout the hiring process and beyond, leading to successful and motivated employees.

For people with disability, Andrew’s journey is a beacon of hope and motivation, proving that with the right support, achieving employment goals is possible.
