Despite her initial shyness, Debra's positive attitude shone through.
She was always eager to help fellow participants with technology, showcasing her willingness to learn and grow.
Under the guidance of CTA facilitator Rukshini, Debra gained a better understanding of the local job market, identified her transferable skills, and updated her resume.
Recognising Debra's potential, Rukshini recommended she continue her development with the Disability Employment Services (DES) program, also available at the Mirrabooka branch.
Living with osteoarthritis and anxiety, Debra was eligible for DES support and employment consultant Stacey understood the need for a role that accommodated her health conditions.
Stacey helped Debra focus her job search on becoming a support worker – a role in greater demand and that would allow Debra to put some of her experience in aged care to use.
To ensure Debra was fully prepared, Stacey enrolled her in a first aid and CPR course, and APM assisted with obtaining a police check and NDIS screening.
Armed with new skills and confidence, Debra applied for jobs and attended interviews with determination.
Debra's efforts paid off when she was referred to a support worker position with local agency Suits Me.
Debra aced the interview and started her new job the following week.
Now she is supporting more people with the personal and positive approach she brought to her employment search and years in her previous career.
Reflecting on adapting to changing jobs and learning new skills, Debra said: "The CTA program gave me more confidence and options that I didn’t know I had before. Thank you!"
Debra's success story highlights the benefits of tailored support programs provided by APM’s dedicated team members.
