Early in her program with APM Employment Services, Leah succeeded in getting a job as an Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) team member with Clarence City Council.
This was a huge step, but Leah needed help with the online training for her new role.
Her APM Employment Consultant Alison was there to support her.
Together they complete the training modules and made sure Leah understood everything that was required in the role.
Alison’s support continued beyond the first day as Leah received weekly check ins to ensure everything was going well.
Impressed by their new employee, Leah’s manager approached Alison to further develop her skillset.
And Leah soon completed courses in food safety, allergy awareness, child protection, and active supervision.
A year later and Leah’s strong start and continued success in the role has had a huge impact on her life.
Not only does she enjoy greater confidence and financial independence, Leah is now the proud owner of a miniature Dachshund puppy named Lola.
Next on her list of life goals is learning to drive – and we think there’s plenty of exciting journey’s ahead for the pair.
Praising the support of Alison and the APM team, Leah said: "You have supported me and helped me at work, and have always been there to listen."
Leah's story shows how important the right support and job can be for someone's health, happiness, and independence.
It also highlights the benefits of including people with disability in the workplace.
