Employers sometimes find it difficult to find people with the right skills to do a particular job. When not enough people have the skills to do a particular job, this is called a ‘skills in demand' area.
Understanding skills in demand can create opportunities for people looking for work.
By understanding the skills in demand in your area, you can work out what jobs are likely to be available. You can then undertake study or training to help you gain the skills to work in that area. We may be able to support you to do this study – speak with us for more information.
Or, if you want to work in a specific kind of job – and if you’re willing to relocate – you can find out where demand is high for that type of work and work out where you need to be living to improve your chances of getting that type of job. You may also be eligible for relocation assistance to help cover the costs of moving for a job.
For information about the skills in demand, you can visit the Australian Government’s Occupational skills shortage information by occupation, or you can visit the state-by-state list of skills shortages.
