It was a challenging path to securing employment for Andrew.

Born with Down syndrome, Andrew was eager to find a supportive employer who would value his skills.

He had previously worked in hospitality but lost his job when his former workplace closed.

That’s when he came to APM Employment Services for help through Disability Employment Services.

When Andrew met APM Employment Consultant Kaye, his determination was clear.

Kaye helped Andrew update his resume and write a cover letter showcasing his hospitality experience.

Andrew also wanted to learn new skills, so Kaye enrolled him in a barista course.

With his updated resume, Andrew was ready to find the perfect job.

Kaye contacted the owner of Dome, a local café, and shared Andrew's skills and experience.

The café owner was impressed and invited Andrew for a paid work trial.

Andrew's skills and work ethic shone during the trial, and he was offered a new job as a café all-rounder.

Since then Kaye has continued to support both Andrew and his employer to ensure they have everything they need.

After several months in secure employment Andrew is thriving in his new role and is now saving money for a holiday.

Andrew's story shows the potential of people with disability to succeed in the workplace with the right support.
