With the right support, Anthony was quick to succeed.
“Polite to the core” is how his Employment Consultant Kim describes Anthony.
Anthony lives with Autism and experiences learning difficulties, he approached APM Goodna (Queensland) in April 2019 for assistance finding work.
Working towards greater independence was Anthony’s main motivation – he had some big goals he wanted to achieve.
APM Goodna assisted Anthony to complete a Certificate I in Construction with DGT Employment and Training in December 2019.
This course involved learning the basic skills and knowledge of the building and construction industry, including carpentry and joinery, which Anthony developed a talent for.
Throughout the course, DGT Trainer James regularly expressed to Kim that Anthony has a natural talent working with wood and an even better understanding of the tools that they were using.
Anthony completed his Certificate in January 2020 and was extremely grateful for the new skills he gained through study.
Thinking about what he hoped to achieve next, Anthony discussed locating employment in the woodwork industry.
Anthony also raised his desire to purchase his own car and was excited to move out into his own home in the future.
“Anthony had some great goals for himself, and he showed great motivation and dedication to work towards those goals, one at a time” Kim recalls.
By September 2020, Kim and Anthony had worked together to achieve their first goal!
After completing a successful work trial, Anthony gained full-time employment with Garstone Design Furniture.
Currently over half a year into his role, Anthony has gone on to achieve his final goals moving out of home and had purchased a car for himself!
Over the moon, Anthony is in love with his job and continues to perform well every day.
APM are exceptionally proud of everything Anthony has been able to achieve - Congratulations Anthony!
