Chris finds support to achieve his goals

When Chris first walked into APM’s Warwick site, his larger-than-life personality immediately lit up the room.

Chris, a participant in the Disability Employment Services program, was driven by a powerful motivation - to provide a better life for his daughter and be the best dad he could be.

During his initial appointment, Chris met employment consultant Fran, who took the time to understand his concerns and aspirations.

Chris shared that his lack of confidence with modern technology was a significant barrier in his job search.

Fran patiently worked with Chris, teaching him basic computer skills and how to use job search apps like Seek and Indeed on his smartphone.

Chris, a passionate fishing enthusiast, often shared stories of his latest catches with Fran, finding solace and mental health benefits in his hobby.

With newfound confidence in using his smartphone, Chris proudly showed Fran pictures of his fishing successes during their appointments.

Chris also opened up about his struggles with anxiety and depression, which had made his job search even more challenging.

Fran provided not only practical support but also encouragement and understanding, helping Chris to build his confidence and resilience.

Determined to achieve his goals, Chris tackled updating his resume and applying for jobs with Fran’s support.

His long-term dream was to move out of his parents’ home and live independently with his daughter.

Chris was soon referred to a local electro-mechanical engineering company looking for a trade’s assistant.

With Fran’s help, Chris practised interview techniques and prepared thoroughly.

On the day of the interview, Chris was both nervous and excited.

His preparation paid off, and he secured the job.

To help him make a positive start, APM provided Chris with the necessary uniform, PPE, and a fuel voucher to help him commute.

Although anxious about starting his new role, Chris was motivated by the prospect of financial stability and the ability to provide for his daughter.

Chris has now been enjoying his role for several months and takes great pride in paying his bills, and loves being able to spoil his daughter and continue his fishing adventures.
