One of her most memorable experiences was working with Gary, who came to APM looking for a fresh start.

“We really did help Gary to just keep coming out of his shell more 'because he loved to have a laugh, loved to have a joke, and could talk to anyone,” Eleanor recalls. 

Eleanor took the time to understand Gary’s needs and pace, building trust and gently encouraging him to step outside his comfort zone. 

With each appointment, she helped him grow more confident, whether it was attending job interviews or reconnecting with his past skills.

“We ended up finding Gary something that he'd done before and could easily walk back into again and felt really happy and confident about it,” Eleanor says. 

“The employer was incredibly supportive, and the job was close to the community Gary loved. It was the perfect fit.”

The moment Gary called Eleanor to say he’d landed the job was unforgettable. 

“We both choked up,” she says. 

“It's been such an amazing thing to see him change and have that confidence and just feel so warmed by it all. It’s why I do what I do.”
