Lyndsey's empowering lives with her ADHD experience

Lyndsey, a vibrant 22-year-old employment consultant at APM, has always believed in the power of personal experience.

Growing up with ADHD, she faced her own set of challenges, but these experiences have become her greatest strengths in her role at APM.

“I think the future generations are just going to be so completely different,” she says.

“There's definitely more open-mindedness towards disabilities now.”

Lyndsey's journey at APM is marked by her dedication to helping others navigate their own paths.

One of her participants, a budding entrepreneur, often struggles with setting boundaries.

Lyndsey steps in to help, using her own strategies to guide her.

“I started off by sending an email after our appointments with what I wanted her to do before the next one,” Lyndsey explains.

“Now, we've moved on to day-by-day planners, and we sit together in our appointments to plan what she's going to do.”

For Lyndsey, inclusive employment services are about more than just finding a job for people with disability, injury, or health conditions.

“Everyone deserves their chance in life, and that's what we're here to help with,” she says passionately.

“We're here to break down the barriers of working. Everyone deserves to work. Everyone deserves to live their life how they want to do it, and having a job is one of the best ways to do that.”

Lyndsey's role at APM is not just about employment - it's about empowerment.

“We help you become ready to get a job,” she says.

“We set up the routines. We help you work on your barriers. It's such a good service that I really think people should utilise to the fullest because that's what we're there for.”

The joy Lyndsey feels when she helps someone find their first job is palpable.

“It's honestly like, as soon as you get someone their job, you're just like, ‘oh wow yeah’,” she beams.

“I only just got my first client their first job. Literally only just happened. I was like, Oh my God, this is so exciting.”

Lyndsey is part of a team at APM that uses their personal experiences to support others.

Her lived experience with ADHD allows her to connect with participants on a deeper level, offering empathy and practical advice.

“I think the future generations are just going to be so completely different,” she repeats, hopeful for a world where understanding and inclusion continue to grow.

As she reflects on her journey, Lyndsey is filled with gratitude and excitement for the future.

“Thank you so much for coming in today and sharing your insights,” Ellie says, wrapping up their conversation.

“I've loved it and I'm really excited to see what you do next.”

“Thank you,” Lyndsey replies with a smile, ready to continue making a difference in the lives of those she supports.
