Employer Cam on hiring through APM transcript

Cameron: I got approached by a past employee of APM, so he contacted me and we’re having a chat. And I said I need staff. And he goes, I have staff. I sort of explained what I needed and he said, I might have someone for you. And my background is I love helping the community. And I think, you know, going outside the box sometimes can work for a club. So when he mentioned Mel, I thought it would be a really good idea to have that initial meeting. Everything was put on the table at the initial meeting, so everyone knew what was expected. So there was no surprises. Mel came very shy. I think she was very nervous on the initial meeting and she hadn’t been in the workforce for a little while. She had some health concerns, but what I saw in Mel was she approached APM to get back into the workforce, which is pretty much the battle. She wanted to work, so why not give her a try? She’s not just a steward. She helps with prep, she helps cooking, and she’s learning a lot more. And she’s pretty much become part of the family. The communication between APM and the club has been fantastic. Nothing’s been too hard. Paperwork’s been all completed and explained to me. Yeah, it’s been very fluent. You know, you can sit there and say it’s the too hard basket, but some of your best employees were probably the most challenging at the start. If you adapt to that, then they can continue and it sort of builds the foundation for a really good culture within your employment.
