Geoff and APM Employment Services transcript
Geoff: My name is Geoff. I’m 42. I play a lot of sports. Football, cricket, eight ball. I was employed for 13 years with another company, and then me and my wife had found out two weeks before I lost my job that she was pregnant. I didn't know what to do because I just wanted to work and support the family. Before I went to APM, I went for hundreds of jobs and kept getting knocked back, and I was getting really low. My moods were all over the place, and I ended up sort of taking it out on my wife, which wasn't a good thing, and that's why I turned around and said I needed to go to an employment place to try and get a job.
Catherine: He felt useless, he was down, and pretty much he said he didn't want to be here anymore, because he wasn't able to support his family.
Geoff: I went to APM, spoke with Adam, to get another job. He said he'll find me a job as soon as he can.
Adam: Geoff didn't want to have to read or write, and he didn't want to, I guess, totally engage in one-on-one customer service. So, we figured that, you know, a factory type work, production work, would be where Geoff's uses would be more useful.
Geoff: He helped me with the form filling, he helped out with my resume as well, because obviously I didn't have a resume for 13 years obviously, and then went to SPL and was able to get the job through there.
Paul: So Geoff is working in our sorting and washing area. So, Geoff's sorting the linen out into categories, you know, that'll be towels with towels or sheets with sheets. And so that's primarily Geoff’s role here. Geoff’s very passionate. He loves working here. He's got a bit of a purpose as well. APM offer a lot of support, including wage subsidy. Each staff member here has to have a medical before they work. APM pay for that. And there's two week trial period, which APM also pay, then there’s ongoing support.
Geoff: The employer is absolutely fantastic. The people that are there right now, make it enjoyable to keep going to work.
Catherine: APM have been amazing. They’ve helped him with fuel vouchers to get to these interviews and they’ve even helped him get his work uniform that he wears, and just things that we couldn't do ourselves really. We're now almost completely out of debt, to the point where we can start saving for our house. Having a job is probably one of the best things, and especially because it's one that he actually likes to do. He's actually in the moments now with this little one here. And you love your daddy don’t you? There's just no words to really describe how we feel now.
Geoff: Getting back to work was really good. It gets you up out of bed and gets you enjoying mates again. The bank balance is a little bit better. It's a great thing being able to support your family. It is an absolute honour to be out there working.
