Christian’s tailored support powers his career

When Christian first walked into APM’s Glenorchy site he was unsure of his career direction.

Living with bipolar disorder, he had experienced numerous setbacks due to his health.

A butcher by trade, he had previously worked at a supermarket for ten years but found it challenging to keep up with the high-speed nature of the industry due to his medication.

But Christian didn’t let these obstacles define him.

Instead, he made the decision to seek support from APM Employment Services - a small step that would bring big results.

Christian’s journey wasn’t easy.

But with the support of the APM team through the Disability Employment Services program, Christian’s benchmark hours were reduced from 30 to 15, allowing him to explore various roles in his trade.

He worked for short periods with several local businesses and each role brought new experiences and built his confidence, even when it didn’t lead to a long-term opportunity.

Then a breakthrough came.

APM’s Employee Account Manager identified a role at Robinson’s Meats that seemed like a perfect fit for Christian.

With APM’s support, Christian secured a work trial.

They discussed his work pace and highlighted his reliability and expertise. The employer was impressed, and Christian landed the role of Butcher’s Assistant.

And Christian didn’t just stop there.

He thrived in his new position, supported by the entire APM Glenorchy team. His Employee Account Manager provided post-placement support, ensuring that Christian and his employer were both satisfied.

Christian is on track to mark his one-year work anniversary at Robinson’s Meats, and exit the DES program as an independent worker.

Christian’s story is a powerful reminder that with persistence, the right support, and a commitment to consistency, we can overcome even the toughest challenges.

He didn’t let his health condition hold him back. Instead, he took that crucial first step to seek help and maintained his determination throughout his journey.

As Christian, a man of few words, himself put it, “Yep, I’m happy where I am, it’s alright.”
