Zac knew the team - APM helped him join it through Inclusive Employment Australia

When Zac walked into the APM office in Devonport, he knew exactly what he wanted: a job close to home, a friendly team, and a fresh start after a year out of work.

What he didn't know was that the opportunity he'd been hoping for was practically on his doorstep.

After a year away from the workforce, getting back wasn't just about finding any job.

Without access to transport, Zac, needed work within reach. More than that, he wanted somewhere he could genuinely belong.

A friend pointed him toward APM Employment Services, and that conversation changed everything.

Through the Inclusive Employment Australia (IEA) program, Zac was paired with Employment Consultant Alana, who took the time to understand his strengths, interests, and what a great working environment would actually look like for him.

Together they built a resume that reflected who he really is and explored local opportunities that fit his life.

With Zac's permission, Alana reached out to community connections to see whether the right role might already be nearby.

It turned out it was.

A Cut Above Quality Meats was a business Zac knew well as a loyal customer and a regular source of friendly footy banter, especially when he could wind up one of the Collingwood-supporting owners.

When APM approached the team there, they were immediately open to bringing him on board.

With one owner's background in disability support, they were well-placed to offer a workplace where Zac could feel included from day one.

APM worked alongside the business to shape a role around his needs and arranged additional employer support to help him hit the ground running.

Zac started as a shop assistant and has now clocked up six months in the role.

APM's ongoing post-placement support and regular check-ins have helped him settle in, and he's hoping to make A Cut Above Quality Meats his long-term home.

His employer put it simply: "His resume began with 'known for my infectious smile, dedication and willingness to learn' and he's already showing us these qualities. Big thanks to APM for assisting us to make Zac's dream a reality."

APM Business Manager Kathy has watched his confidence grow week by week. "He is more confident and cheekier than before," she said.
