Meaningful matches with inclusive employers

Connection is at the heart of every successful employment journey.

For Stephen, who lives with Asperger’s, finding a job wasn’t just about earning a wage.

It was about finding a place where he felt understood, supported, and valued.

That journey began when Stephen met Adam, from APM Employment Services.

“I sat with Stephen and got to know him and really worked out what type of environment Stephen would be more comfortable in,” Adam shared.

Adam’s approach was grounded in empathy and understanding. He learned that Stephen needed structure to succeed.

“A structure is really important for Stephen because his disability with Asperger’s, I guess sometimes he gets veered off track,” Adam explained.

“Having set daily tasks is something that we needed to get Stephen into.”

With this insight, Adam connected Stephen with SPL - a workplace that offered routine, clarity, and a supportive team.

“Stephen has some previous skills in kind of factory production type environments,” Adam said.

“It was a bit of a no-brainer… and then working around Stephen’s Asperger’s and what would be the correct fit. I think we’ve struck gold here.”

This wasn’t just a job placement, it was a meaningful match.

Adam also helped refine Stephen’s resume to highlight his strengths.

“We know what employers want to see… and that’s what we did to help. And yeah, it’s worked out well.”

The impact of this connection was immediate and profound.

“Once getting Stephen into employment, he’s just become a complete different person,” Adam said.

“His bubbly, jokey, lovable nature is just completely shining at the moment.”

Stephen’s story highlights the importance of how inclusive workplaces that embrace individual needs and strengths can transform lives.

“A job is just so rewarding, not just for having funds at the end of the week, but having a purpose,” Adam said.

“It’s so important to people’s health and wellbeing and mental stability.”
