Building trust and supporting employees

At APM, we recognise the key to successful employment placements lies in understanding the unique needs of local businesses.

Adam, Employer Account Manager, and Ellen, an APM Employment Consultant, explains how the team is committed to delivering Disability Employment Services (DES) by forging strong relationships with local employers.

"I source an employer, which I think would be suited to our wide range of caseloads and then basically learn about the business and roles that I think our candidates can do," Adam said.

By getting to know the specific requirements and culture of each business, participants are matched to roles where they will thrive and contribute meaningfully.

Ellen says the approach is centred on creating long-term success for both DES participants and the businesses they partner with.

"We don't want to put people in work that they're just going to meet their Centrelink requirements," Ellen emphasises.

"We want to put them in work that's going to give them that job satisfaction, give them their confidence, their self-worth, and give them that independence to live in the future."

One successful participant is Eric, who now works with Red Nose for eight hours every week.

"Eric's currently working with Red Nose, giving back to the community and feeling better about himself," Ellen said.

Building relationships

Eric’s success highlights the importance of understanding employer needs and finding the right fit for each DES participant.

Adam said they build trust with employers by maintaining open communication and providing ongoing support.

“We’ve had a really strong relationship with Alex and Andrew at Red Nose for the last couple of years," Adam said.

"We trust each other, and the candidates that I provide Alex and Andrew at Red Nose seem to be really suited to their business."

This trust is crucial in creating opportunities and ensuring long-term success.

Hiring an employee with a disability brings numerous benefits to businesses, including promoting diversity and enhancing workplace culture.

As well as supporting employers by creating roles people with disability can excel in, Ellen and the team assist with accessing workplace modifications and other services once the employee starts their job.

This was how Eric was able to make the best possible start and continue to develop as a member of the Red Nose team.

"We're there to address any issues that may arise in work, celebrate any successes, and also support Eric to continue to be successful at work," Ellen said.
