In this guide, we explain how you can find a job through Workforce Australia. And how to get extra support from APM that's tailored to your needs.

What is Workforce Australia?

Workforce Australia is the new way for Australian job seekers to find a job and get support on their journey towards employment. It replaced jobactive from July 4th 2022.

Workforce Australia is also a free recruitment service for Australian businesses who are looking to hire staff.

Providers like APM Employment Services work closely with job seekers and businesses to match the right people with the right job opportunities.

When you use Workforce Australia, you get more choice over how much support you get while looking for work.

You can self-manage your job search through an online portal. Or you can get tailored enhanced services and one-on-one support from APM Employment Services or another provider in your area.

How can I find a job through Workforce Australia?

Everyone's journey with employment is different.

Whether you're a new graduate looking for your first job, a parent of young children hoping to get back into the workforce or a mature-aged worker thinking about changing careers – Workforce Australia is for all Australian job seekers.

Whatever your circumstances, the steps below explain how you can find a job through Workforce Australia.

Step 1. Apply for income support with Centrelink

If you are already receiving income support payments from Centrelink, you may receive a referral for Workforce Australia Online. Here you can self-manage your job search. If you want or need in-person services, you will be referred to a provider such as APM Employment Services.

If you aren't currently receiving income support payments, contact the APM Employment Services team directly to see how we can best support you to find employment.

Call us on 1800 276 932 or email apm4jobs@apm.net.au.

Step 2. Access online services

Workforce Australia Online is where you can self-manage your job search. You can access the online portal via workforceaustralia.gov.au or on the Workforce Australia app.

Use the online portal to:

  • Search and apply for job opportunities
  • Enrol in job skills programs
  • Access financial support for things like police checks and white cards
  • Find information to help with your job search
  • Get email or phone support from the Digital Services Contact Centre (DSCC)
  • Manage your obligations

Step 3. Get personalised support from a provider

If you need or want more tailored support, you can access Workforce Australia Services from APM Employment Services or another provider in your local area.

We'll work closely with you to understand your goals, prepare for work, find a job and succeed in your new role.

Services APM Employment Services can help you with include:

  • Finding suitable job opportunities
  • Career guidance and mentorship
  • Employment programs and skills training
  • Work experience, work trials and internships
  • Writing and tailoring your resume
  • Preparing for job interviews
  • Funding for work-related licences and micro-credentials
  • Support to relocate for a job

We can also help you access specialist support, additional services and funding that you're eligible for.

APM Employment Services is a chosen provider of specialist employment services for Indigenous Australians and job seekers from culturally and linguistically diverse communities in select areas.

Step 4. Meet your obligations

If you are receiving income support payments from Centrelink, you may be required to meet certain obligations to keep receiving payments.

Under the new Points Based Activation System, you'll be assigned a monthly points total.

This is how many points you need to earn every month to meet your obligations.

You earn points by completing activities like applying for jobs, going to job interviews and completing skills training programs.

Each type of activity has its own points value. For example, completing a job application will earn you 5 points and attending a job interview will earn you 25 points.

You will need to report the activities you do and points you earn to your provider. If you are self-managing your job search, you will need to report through the Workforce Australia website or app.
