NDIS and cultural & linguistically diverse communities

As an NDIS partner in the community, our Local Area Coordinators help people with disability, their families, and carers to identify and access the support they need.

We have staff from a range of culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds who understand the cultural and systematic barriers people may face when engaging with and accessing the NDIS.

Some of the common issues include cultural views on disability; stigma; lack of understanding of the local healthcare systems and familial and community responsibility for the care of people with disability.

If you or someone you know has a disability, we encourage you to contact APM Communities for advice and guidance in a culturally safe and supportive environment.

We can help you understand if you are eligible for the NDIS. If you aren’t eligible, we can still help connect you with other community and mainstream supports.

Find out more about accessing the NDIS for the CALD community by calling 1800 276 522 or make an enquiry below.

Accessing the NDIS for culturally & linguistically diverse communities

Hear from APM Communities Local Area Coordinator, Liz, who shares her own lived experience with a loved one with disability and accessing the NDIS.

She breaks down some of the stigma and cultural challenges some people face when considering accessing support.
