NDIS and First Nations Peoples

As a NDIS partner in the community, APM Communities is dedicated to helping people with disabilities, their families and carers access the support they need.

Our Local Area Coordinators (LACs) work with a deep respect for the cultures, traditions and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, who are the original custodians of this land.

Our LACs are committed to working with First Nations peoples and communities ensuring that they feel heard and that our approach is culturally responsive by:

  • Facilitating meetings in culturally safe environments and offering flexibility to meet in community-preferred spaces
  • Investing in cultural responsiveness training for all LACs to ensure ongoing learning and expand our understanding of disability for First Nations peoples
  • Connecting participants with service providers who are familiar with, and respectful of Indigenous cultures
  • Collaborating with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community leaders and organisations to strengthen our service delivery

If you or someone you know has a disability, we encourage you to contact APM Communities for advice and support; such as helping you understand your NDIS eligibility.

Even if you are not eligible, we can still assist in connecting you with other community and mainstream services and supports.
