APM is committed to the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

We comply with the National Principles for Child Safety and understand the important role all staff play in creating an environment where children and minors feel safe and protected.

We respect and value the rights of all children and young people and support them to be involved in decisions that affect them.

Child Safety and Protection Policy and Child Safe Framework

APM's Child Safety and Protection Policy outlines the National Principles, a national approach to embedding a child-safe culture across all sectors of APM where children/youth are involved.

This policy works to ensure that all APM employees and stakeholders have the knowledge, guidance, and instruction on how to better understand and adopt the correct strategies to promote child wellbeing and guarantee a safe environment.


APM‘s Child Safe Framework works to:

  • Manage and mitigate any risks
  • Promote best practice in APM with respect to child safety
  • Ensure compliance with external policies and practices
  • Educate all employees
  • Act as consult for APM employees and stakeholders

If any of these issues are worrying you, or you feel unsafe, please talk with your consultant or any APM staff member you feel comfortable with.

Alternatively, you can email clinicalservices@apm.net.au or call 1800 936 110 and ask to speak to someone from our Children and Young Person Safety Team.

Standards

STANDARD 1

Child safety is embedded in our organisational leadership, governance and culture.

STANDARD 2

Where we make decisions involving children and young people, we allow them to participate and ensure they are taken seriously.

STANDARD 3

Families and communities are informed and involved about our decisions and actions affecting children. 

STANDARD 4

Equity is upheld and diverse needs are considered when making decisions affecting children. 

STANDARD 5

People working with children are suitable, appropriately checked and supported by APM. 

STANDARD 6

Processes to respond to complaints are child focused. 

STANDARD 7

Training is made available to staff to equip them with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children safe and report appropriately.

STANDARD 8

We ensure our physical and online environments minimise the opportunity for child abuse. 

STANDARD 9

We will continuously review and seek to improve our implementation of the Child Safe Standards. 

STANDARD 10

We have policies and procedures which document how APM is child safe.
