  • After experiencing long-term unemployment, Nilfa rebuilt her confidence.
  • Dedicated support from APM through Workforce Australia and AAoA helped secure Nilfa her dream job.

The right support can give a person the confidence they need to succeed.

Nilfa reached out to APM Employment Services for assistance to get job-ready and find sustainable employment.

She came to APM through the Workforce Australia program, which provides a range of tailored support services for job seekers.

They may include educational opportunities, translation services, and connections with other community programs for support and mentoring.

Workforce Australia also provides specific support for culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds.

As a job seeker with a culturally and linguistically diverse background, Nilfa found she encountered challenges when it came to communication with her limited English skills.

After getting to know Nilfa, the APM Cheltenham team discovered she was incredibly passionate about working in the hospitality industry.

With a limited amount of experience in the hospitality industry, APM business manager Ruby and business development manager Nina decided to refer Nilfa to the Accommodation Association of Australia (AAoA).

The AAoA are an organisation which partner with local hotels to match new talent into suitable work environments.

Ruby saw the five-day induction program they offered, which included accredited training, and immediately thought of Nilfa.

Initially hesitant to attend the AAoA open day, Nilfa attended but felt unsure if she had the skills the recruiters were looking for.

As the day went on her confidence grew, with support from the APM team.

The open day went so well, Nilfa signed up for the five-day induction program, where she completed her training.

Almost straightaway, Nilfa was offered employment with Mantra on Little Bourke.

Ruby and Nina liaised with AAoA during this time, working to empower Nilfa to put her training into practice at Mantra.

Nilfa’s journey to employment has seen her overcome some significant challenges to achieve her dream of landing a job in the hospitality industry.

According to Ruby and Nina, Nilfa’s soaring confidence makes every ounce of effort worth it.

The Mantra staff have been incredibly welcoming and supportive throughout Nilfa’s transition to the workforce, providing mentoring and guidance as she masters her new role.

What is Workforce Australia?

Workforce Australia replaces the national jobactive program and is open to anyone who is unemployed and claiming income support payments.

There are several support programs delivered by Workforce Australia providers in regions across the country.

If you can self-manage your job search, a new website has been launched to assist you in finding employment and reporting your mutual obligations.

If you require more support, or want in-person assistance, you can ask to join a Workforce Australia provider such as APM Employment Services.

This enhanced support is called Workforce Australia Services and includes one on one assistance with a dedicated employment consultant.

They will meet with you regularly and help you get job-ready, access relevant skills training and help you meet potential employers looking to hire local people.
