Burnthahardwood – a one stop basketball shop

Matt Smith from 'Burnthahardwood' is all about getting everyone fit and active and having fun through basketball.

As well as basketball coaching, Matt also sells a funky range of customised basketball uniforms and his own branded street gear. His street vibe is appealing to kids of all ages.

Matt is definitely non-traditional and encourages kids to simply keep moving and “embrace the outdoors”.

He says “Burnthahardwood is a culture created by the baller for the baller."

“I love the sport of basketball and this is my way of giving back to a sport that has supplied me with so many cool memories growing up as a kid,” Matt said.

"From sweet looking apparel, to one-on-one basketball coaching and fitness relevant training, I believe Burnthahardwood ticks every box when it comes to a 'one-stop' Basketball destination."

After completing his NEIS training, Matt took on board everything he learned in the classroom and applied it to his business.

The NEIS program has been delivered by APM Employment Services since February 2020. It was previously delivered by Konekt Employment.

From 1 July 2022, Self-Employment Assistance replaced the NEIS program.

He designed a fantastic logo that represented his brand and image and embraced social media to get his name out there. He also started blogging. He networked with local council, sporting groups and local politicians.

Matt has not only built himself a reputation as a leading provider of basketball uniforms, he has also built himself a reputation as a professional basketball coach on the Central Coast.

Following his culture of 'embrace the outdoors' he is now establishing school holiday programs and school sport programs to encourage more participation in the sport of basketball.

He also offers 'Through tha roof' jump and agility training for those who want to improve their game.
