David Cameron has been appointed as Chairman of the National Citizen Service (NCS) Patrons, NCS Trust announced today.
This is David Cameron's first role since leaving No10 and through it, he will continue his support for NCS.
NCS is the fastest growing youth programme the UK has seen for over a century: more than 275,000 young people have taken part since the programme was first piloted in 2009.
Since the early pilots, NCS has achieved significant cross-party and cross-sector support, and is fast becoming a new national institution dedicated to helping the next generation succeed.
In the months and years ahead, David Cameron will support NCS through the NCS Trust, the independent social enterprise that oversees the network of charities that deliver NCS locally.
The former Prime Minister will volunteer his time to help establish and convene a new cross-party, cross-sector group of influential supporters - NCS Patrons - who will support NCS Trust to build on the success of the programme and help it continue to flourish.
NCS Patrons will work to support the NCS Trust Board and Executive Team to grow the programme into an enduring national institution that helps build a more cohesive, engaged and mobile society.
