Jek and Ingeus Singapore

Jek learns to fly solo

Jek had enjoyed a successful career with a strong and sustained professional progression.

Starting in a sales position in the telecom and IT industry, he moved on to cybersecurity and had become a leader in a management role.

Then, in 2023, he was retrenched and finding a new job became much harder than he’d thought.

Despite applying for many positions, his applications were getting no response. Not a single interview.

He questioned whether it was his resume that was the problem. Or maybe something else. What he did know was that he couldn’t do it alone. He needed professional help.

And that’s when Subash, a Coaching and Development Specialist from Ingeus, stepped in.

Ingeus has a Career Matching Provider Programme that supports people who are unemployed or who are recently retrenched in finding new and meaningful employment.

The Programme offers a dedicated career coach for each individual, ensuring a personalized and supportive approach that allows Ingeus to accompany and guide individuals, like Jek, throughout their journey.

Jek recalls, “The first thing Subash said to me was, ‘Hey, I am your co-pilot. You are the pilot. I'm here to support you to fly your plane, but you have to fly your plane yourself.’”

Some of the main things Ingeus helps with are resume writing, ensuring the resumes are correct and match the job description, and interview and networking practice, where you learn to pitch yourself to a prospective employer.

Most importantly, the coach is present with the person on this often challenging journey, so they are not doing it alone.

Every interview Jek got was a chance to review and learn.

Subash describes the process, “After attending an interview, he would come back to me and say what happened in the interview. We could postmortem the interview and say, maybe we could have done that better, or taken this differently. That journey was very useful."

Jek reminds us that even with the coaches, ultimately it’s you who has to secure the job. “You have to work closely with your coaches, you have to do your part.

“Ingeus does not provide jobs to you. Ingeus is here to help you find jobs yourself.”
