Joey and Ingeus Singapore

Joey gets clarity and sees a career path for his future

Joey is currently employed in an operational role, looking after operations, vendor management, and some data analytics.

It’s not a role he wants to do forever, so he needed a clearer picture of what he had to offer and how he could create a career pathway for the future.

Like many people, he was finding it difficult to do this on his own. Joey explains, “My thought process was very scattered. It was like attempt this but no timeline, attempt doing job research but no timeline.”

He turned to Ingeus’ Polaris Program for help and to answer some key questions he had about himself and his employment opportunities.

“The reason why I wanted to explore this programme is primarily, where do I stand in my skill set? What do I have in my pocket? And then what can I gain from exploring and reorganising my thoughts and processes when I apply for jobs?”

The Polaris Programme is designed for Singaporeans who are currently employed to gain better clarity about their career options.

They can get a better understanding of how to further their career development and find out what kind of skills they need to enhance to take the next step in their careers.

Then they can tailor a plan to make this happen.

Because everyone’s circumstances, skills and goals are different, participants like Joey all get an individual Coach and Development Specialist.

Veronica, Joey’s coach, describes the approach tailored to him, “For Joey’s case, he’s currently employed. So, what we did was to use the Polaris Programme to first help him identify his transferable skills, his strengths, what motivates him at work, as well as his preferred values.”

For Joey, it’s made all the difference to enable him to see a path and take the necessary steps he needs to take.

The course has provided him with a guideline and template to follow, along with a timeline that he can stick to.

His thought process is no longer scattered.

“Now I have more of a focus, start to identify roles for myself that I can transition into,” says Joey.

An unexpected benefit of the programme for Joey was that, on top of receiving essential career guidance, he also learned that taking care of yourself was as important as developing skills and identifying a career path.

“The wellbeing part was really something that I never thought I would need to take note of. But it also opened up my mind. Never think that you won’t need to take care of yourself in order to move forward.

“Sometimes you just keep wanting to move, then you never take a breather to self-reflect. So that’s what helped me a lot as well.”
