Juan and Ingeus Spain

Juan’s new direction makes everyone happy

Juan has lived in Avilés in Spain all his life, where he was a local butcher.

He’d retired from his trade but was looking for opportunities as an alternative to retirement.

While he was looking at job offers, he was pointed in the direction of Ingeus for some help and guidance.

Ingeus provides the InsertAstur Program – a collaboration with the public employment service where participants like Juan receive pre-employment and employment guidance activities, followed by support in finding employment.

Juan came to Ingeus to see what opportunities and roles he could find.

By working through the step-by-step process and building his confidence in his skills and what he had to offer an employer, he found his new job.

His personal Employment Manager, Carmen, remembers that moment well, “We all felt enormous joy.

“It was a joint celebration in the office with all the advisors, the managers, and we were, and still are, all delighted that he got this job.”

His new employer, Pablo, manager of a local dog day care centre, was just as happy, impressed by Juan’s eagerness to work and how quickly he took to the new work.

“He was willing to walk an hour and a half to come to work. The truth is that he adapted very well. He didn’t have any problems at any time. He likes dogs and works very well with them.”

Juan has some good advice for anyone who’s thinking of joining the Program.

"Give it a try. Don’t give up. Don’t close yourself off to other opportunities. Try it!"
