Getting employers and employees onboard a new apprenticeship program

The United States Department of Labor's (DOL) Industry Intermediary Registered Apprenticeship Expansion Program is transforming career development by opening pathways to non-traditional occupations.

As an intermediary, Equus supports employer partners in becoming apprenticeship sponsors and developing programs that attract new talent while retaining and growing skilled employees.

The success of the Equus and Lifepoint partnership showcases the program’s transformative potential.

“We noticed that there was opportunity, and that apprenticeship as a model had promise. We all have needs for recruiting, and staffing — we all want to support our employees and make sure they want to stay. So, connecting to apprenticeship has added a total asset to the way we work already.”

Laura, Director, Educational Program Design, Lifepoint Health, is already seeing the benefits. And so are the apprentices.

“We have heard phenomenal feedback from the apprentices that it's making them feel more confident in their skills, more comfortable in working with patients. That is priceless.”

Michelle, National Workforce Solutions Director, Equus Workforce Solutions:

“The beauty of the program that we operate as an intermediary is that we support our employer partners to develop programs that will help them gain benefits and attract new talent.”

Michelle, on the relationship with program partner, Lifepoint: “We started our work with Lifepoint and helped them to expand their culinary and environmental services, and we helped them become a national program sponsor.”

Laura, from Lifepoint Health, agrees that the beneficial relationship is reciprocal and appreciates the proactive, innovative support from Equus:

“We've had a really strong relationship and Equus has been nothing but a huge support. Not just through grant funding but through thinking outside the box, of other ways we can continue to grow and develop our apprentice programs.”
