Sharing the same vision
Not everyone fits into the same box when it comes to employment and their circumstances.
APM New Zealand and Te Aitarakihi have partnered to provide two-day youth program, held on the Marae (meeting grounds) in Timaru.
“My role is to korowai (embrace) our whanau (family), to connect them to services, to connect them to agencies, to build relationships” Community Connector for Te Aitarakihi Brenda said.
She works alongside whanau to help them reconnect back to the Marae Ā Iwi (community Marae).
The workshops hosted here came about as part of a strong connection between Brenda, her colleague Hami, Wendy and Pete from APM WorkAssist (formerly APM Workcare).
Wendy reached out to Te Aitarakihi and they organised a hui (meeting) to come together and talk about the ways they could help the community.
The power of belief
“We just wanted to work together and we knew we had the same vision we’re on the same page” Brenda said.
That unity and cohesion is physically, mentally and spiritually important.
“People come up here and feel safe in this environment” Te Aitarakihi Community Liaison Hami said.
“And if they can feel safe in an environment, then that flows on.”
All these components help people in their community get the best possible service e and care on their employment journey.
APM employment consultant and Maori advisor Pete said this partnership enables them to be creative in delivering services they way that they need to, according to the person’s needs.
“I think with APM we’re going to be a force to be reckoned with, to be honest” Brenda said.
