Increase in mental health support

APM has commenced a new project, 'Breaking Down Barriers', which is designed to improve the skills of employment service provider staff in the northern suburbs of Brisbane who work with job seekers with mental health concerns.

"Employment service provider staff frequently request training in the area of mental health and this is where 'Breaking Down Barriers' will be very effective," said APM's Managing Director, Megan Wynne.

"Training delivered as part of the project will provide these staff with a greater understanding of mental health and the needs of people living with a mental health condition.

"Ultimately, 'Breaking Down Barriers' is designed to assist more Australians with a mental health condition into meaningful employment."

Funding for the project comes from the North Brisbane Partners in Recovery Innovation Fund 2014, of which the North Brisbane Medicare Local is the lead agency.

"One of the major reasons why APM was chosen to deliver this project is our proven track record of assisting more than 60,000 Australians each year, across all of the services that we provide," Ms Wynne said.

Breaking Down Barriers is being delivered by the APM Brisbane Personal Helpers and Mentors Employment team and runs for the next 12 months.
