APM Regional Assessment Service - Aged Care Employee Day transcript

Amanda: Hi, my name is Amanda, and my role is a Home Support Assessor with the Regional Assessment Service. 

Damian: Hi, I'm Damian and I'm a Home Support Assessor. 

Darlene: Hi, my name is Darlene. I am a Home Support Assessor. 

Amanda: My role involves traveling in the community and completing face-to-face assessments with clients in their home. We assess their current care needs and their eligibility for the Commonwealth home support program. 

Damian: One of the things that I'm able to achieve in the lives of older Australians is to allow them to feel heard and understood. 

Darlene: We can understand how they would like to be supported so that we can look at putting some support place to keep them independent. 

Amanda: I've certainly met my fair share of amazing characters and personalities over these two years, including a 93 year old that demonstrated her yoga poses, which were 10 times better than I could ever achieve. 

Darlene: They are happy that there is support out there available to keep them independent and at home for as long as possible. 

Damian: I find older people incredibly inspiring, particularly when I hear about some of the things that they've accomplished in their lives, but more so when I hear about some of the things they're continuing to accomplish and the things they want to accomplish in the future. 

Darlene: When whether it be a client, their family member, representative or carer, they may say things such as, "Thank you so much for being here and for being here to help us." 

Damian: I continually receive positive feedback from older Australians who are thankful for the way in which I'm able to converse with them, just listen to them and treat them with dignity and respect. 

Amanda: Most of them say, "Thank you for coming. Thank you for traveling all this way just to see me." Of course. "Just thank you for making this process easy for us to understand." 

Darlene: It's really heartwarming. And that's one of the main things that I like about being in this role.
