New vocation, new outlook
Employment can bring about a range of life-changing benefits for a person.
Difficult circumstances like unemployment and hardship can take its toll on someone’s mental health, causing someone to feel directionless, uncertain, and alone.
Danny knows the strength it takes to reach out for support, to accept support and take the steps towards his passion.
“I struggle with anxiety and depression, I was lost in my own life” he recalls.
“I couldn’t really help myself, so I had to reach out.”
Danny was referred to the Restart Scheme delivered by Ingeus UK from Jobcentre Plus, and he connected with his employment advisor Amy.
The Restart Scheme is a government initiative which gives unemployed people enhanced support to find employment in their local area.
Ingeus UK deliver the scheme in Greater Manchester, Central and West London and is a partner to Serco in Central West Midlands.
Participants can access up to 12 months of specialised support to find secure and sustainable work, with the help of a dedicated advisor and access to job skill training.
They understand the challenges of unemployment and will help you develop and execute a plan to help you get back on your feet.
Brand new (re)start at life
Amy worked together with Danny, eventually helping him find the right resources to start his own business.
“I supported him into self-employment as a personal trainer” she said.
“Once Danny was in a good place to be able to start work, we them had to help him financially.”
Amy helped Danny access funding to purchase gym gear with his business branding on it.
To get Danny the support he needed to start his own business, Amy referred him to Momentic who works with Ingeus to support Restart Scheme participants who are starting their own business.
Business advisor at Momentic Jan recalls helping Danny with some of the practicalities of setting up his own business.
She helped him register for self-assessment, create a business plan, marketing, generating new business and growing the business.
And the positive impact it has had on Danny’s life is clear.
“It’s probably one of the biggest things, if not the biggest thing I’ve done, I would recommend it big time.”
“It’s one of the best things you’ll ever do.”
