Dittydots and APM NZ

Two blooming careers have begun

When Francess met Ted from APM, her career and life changed.

Little did she know that a short time later, they would team up and change someone else’s life.

Francess was looking for a career change.

She felt unfulfilled and wanted to do something she was passionate about and could get much more enjoyment from.

“I've always had a wild passion for flowers. Always loved the outdoors. Having zero experience in the floristry industry, Ted helped me get my little toe in the door with my very first placement.”

Ted, an APM Employment Specialist, began by listening to her story to discover what she wanted and the barriers to achieving her goals.

He helped her redo her CV, prepare her for interviews, and break down the whole thing into smaller, manageable parts so she knew the pathway she needed to take.

Now, Francess is the owner of her very own thriving online florist shop called Dittydots.

But the story doesn’t end there. Jasmin, part of APM’s employment program, had done a lot of work with art and photography.

Ted told her about Francess and how Francess was developing this floristry business.

He then approached Francess, explained the situation with Jasmin, and discussed their similar interests.

Now, Jasmin is employed by Dittydots in a Marketing and Photography role.

She says, “This is my first job in this area, and I'm learning so much through Francess, and thanks to Ted, because he also taught me so much, like a lot of skills that I hadn't been taught. That was very valuable.”

It’s a win-win as Jasmin is now helping Francess focus on her goals.

“Jasmin keeps me motivated. She keeps me organised. Having her on board has enabled me to focus my attention on things that really need them.

“If I were to compare my life now to two years ago when Ted and I first were in contact, I would not believe these changes would be possible. With the right people, with the right tools, right guidance, it is possible.”
